Chocolate Fudge Cake

It’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving. – Mother Teresa Truly, there is more happiness in giving than receiving. The joy is in watching your kid’s face light up as he unwraps the gifts left by Santa as a token of appreciation for his good behaviour during the year. It i

Tea Cake on a Stove

One of my recent chain mail events with friends involved sharing a lot of cake recipes and pictures. It seemed everyone had contracted a baking virus, even the pregnant lady (soon to be mother of two, as she often reminds us). I read wistfully through all their baking adventures, wistfully because I

Orange Trifle Turns Orange Cream Cake

It has been two years since I started blogging. Considering that my blog has lasted longer than many of my other endeavors, I decided the occasion deserved to be celebrated and attempted an orange trifle. For this, I cut my orange tea cake, applied plenty of orange jam on the slices and arranged the

Spanish Caramel Custard

Since I am the only food blogger in the family, my cousin Mnu gifted me a few cook books recently which are a beautiful compilation of exotic recipes and drool worthy pictures. Qya and I pretend to eat the scrumptious sandwiches, succulent chicken, colourful salads, luscious and indulgent desserts off its glossy pages all the time. After enduring lots of pleading, I agreed to make a Spanish Caramel Custard for him. In fact we made it together, he got a taste of the orange infused milk and approved of it, learnt how to separate egg whites and yolks (though I didn’t think he was quite up to the task when he offered to help), and couldn’t fully comprehend how white sugar became brown and caramelized after it melted. Though not happy that it had to go into the oven for so long and then had to cool for a few hours in the refrigerator, he declared the end product to be delicious!!!

Instant Cheer with Orange Chocolate Pots!!!

During my college years, my friends maintained what they called a “Desp Calendar” in their hostel room. They were 6 people crammed into a single room – a big, hot and dirty room according to my friend smi. A single sad/desp(erate)/irritated person (again borrowing smi’s words) rubbed everyone the wrong way, effectively resulting in a lot of grumpy ladies cramped together. (I think we mastered the art of snapping right there, in that room.) This could have become a serious issue because at least one person had reason to be down every day – with bad hostel food, exams that happened too often, occasional bouts of home sickness, alarmingly large piles of pending laundry etc.
So someone came up with this ingenious idea of writing down every one’s names against each day of the calendar, and marking a “desp” person with a happy smiley. Once a week or so, the others were to treat the desp person(s) at the restaurant or juice shop. Though I am unsure how many of these treats actually happened (

Christmas Cake/Fruit Cake

Isn’t Christmas the most beautiful time of the year? It is that time of the year when we buy gifts and send out greeting cards, set up the Christmas tree, put up Christmas decorations and ornaments, hang stockings so that Santa can give us those much awaited gifts, bake cakes and throw parties, and
