Murgh Saagwala – Spinach Chicken Curry

Murgh Saagwala is essentially chicken (murgh) cooked in pureed spinach (saag). It’s a mild curry that I quite like and I so badly wanted to cook it recently that I braved the c-c-cold Bangalore weather in search of spinach. By the time I got the leaves in the fifth shop I went to, I could barely fe

Red Velvet Cake

The colour of blood is Red. Red also indicates grave danger. Love is often expressed artistically by an arrow piercing a Red heart. Blood = Red Danger = Red Love = Red By the transitive property, Danger = Love = Blood (shed). Didn’t you always wonder if the mathematical properties you learnt at scho

Shahi Paneer

It’s been a long time since I blogged, and I would like to thank my millions of considerate readers for not bothering me with emails and comments inquiring about my well being, though I am sure you were worried to tiny bits. Inspite of the long break, I have to start my post on a bitter note. All b

Butter Chicken – Murgh Makhani

An ideal world would be one in which all promises are kept, no rules are broken and people truly love and respect each other.
But such a world exists only in Karan Johar movies where the men are more gorgeous than Chris Hemsworth, the women’s legs are longer than the whole of me and they show all of it, and where love happens in London, Paris or San Fracisco with firangis dancing in the background wearing lehengas designed by Manish Malhotra.
It’s all rosy in Mills Boon novels too, where after 100 pages of keeping passions and emotions in check and denying each other’s existence, the lovebirds finally unleash it all and live happily ever after.
The world is a beautiful place in my fantasies too. In it, I am 10 kgs lesser than my actual weight.
But reality is a far cry from all the mush and the slush. In our world, we have politicians who promise to erase poverty, but instead erase the poor. From their view point, it isn’t a grave injustice. They promised to hatao the girib-i and inst

Mocha Cake

Let me tell you straight away that this is not one of my favourite cakes. I am not even sure whether I like it. But then, I do not like coffee. While the rest of my family is drawn towards coffee the way Jerry floats towards cheese, I go to the extent of pinching my nose so as to not breathe in “co

Eggless Chocolate Cake

My new, bright green, silicon cupcake molds stared at me every time I entered the kitchen. There were a 100 cakes I wanted to bake, but all of them used egg. While I have no qualms about eating cakes with egg in them during Lent, the thought of actually baking them made me slightly uneasy. And I wa

Pavlova with Strawberry Cream

If love had to be represented by a fruit, I think strawberries would do the job really well. For one, they are rarely available. Next, most of the ones you do find are bruised and may even have one or more happy worms within, not something to be happy about unless you are a worm yourself. You hear everyone raving about them, the juiciness, the sweetness, the looks, but when you bite into one, you realize they are just blah. Highly over rated. And lastly, they turn out to be more expensive that lots of other simpler fruits. (I am of course talking about the strawberries available here in Bangalore, perhaps they are much better elsewhere? Or is that what everyone thinks?)
Anyway, I am not a fan of the fruit, but qya loves them. (Young and carefree, what does he know?) When he spotted strawberries on our last shopping trip, he squealed happily and batted his eyelashes at me just the right number of times, convincing me to give the fruit one more chance. We turned over a couple of boxes

Oreo Shake

There is an Indo Pak cricket match on Christmas day? God has an odd sense of humor. It reminds me of the days when as a student, I took breaks from school work on festival holidays and looked forward to watching new movies on tv amid the celebrations. But at times, my grand plans were foiled by live cricket telecasts that ALL members of the opposite sex wanted to watch. I can remember only too well the arguments between the cinema loving ladies and the cricket loving guys. Mohanlal or Sachin? A sixer that stuns an entire nation or comedy that has you rolling around laughing uncontrollably? The men usually used their trump card and threatened to leave to my aunt’s house in the neighbourhood to watch the upper cuts and paddle sweeps in peace. The peace loving women angrily gave in but everyone continued looking daggers at each other and it took considerable time (and perhaps a power cut or two) for the climate to turn festive once again.
You are most probably going to face such situatio

Orange Trifle Turns Orange Cream Cake

It has been two years since I started blogging. Considering that my blog has lasted longer than many of my other endeavors, I decided the occasion deserved to be celebrated and attempted an orange trifle. For this, I cut my orange tea cake, applied plenty of orange jam on the slices and arranged the
